Strategic Plan

In early 2022, as we entered our 22nd year of cultivating community connections that nurture a strong, healthy, and caring community, the staff team and Board of Directors of the Community Foundation were inspired to reflect on the history and current state of the organization and envision a bright future to meet the changing needs of the community.

With significant global and local shifts resulting from the pandemic, including volatile markets, rising costs of living, impacts on the social determinants of health, and changing community demographics, it was an opportune time for the organization to pause, reflect, engage, and inspire. In the fall of 2022, staff, volunteers, donors, and community leaders gathered to share their insights and ideas about the community they envision and the role that the community foundation can play in making it a reality.

Here is an overview of the Community Foundation’s plan, which covers four major strategies, each with supporting goals:

Strategy 1.0:  Inspiring Philanthropy

  • The Community Foundation is recognized as a partner in community philanthropy across Northumberland County.
  • Northumberland’s Vital Signs report is used to promote donor engagement opportunities and to grow the Northumberland County Fund.
  • Estate planning events for professional advisors are hosted across Northumberland County.

Strategy 2.0:  Engaging Youth & Young Adults

  • Increased knowledge of youth employment and volunteer opportunities in our community.
  • Vital Signs data on lower-than-average high school attainment is used as a tool to collaborate on programs to engage/ encourage high school completion.
  • Youth and Young Adults are engaged and involved in our work.

Strategy 3.0:  Amplifying Vital Signs

  • Northumberland’s Vital Signs report is launched across Northumberland County (reaching all 8 communities).
  • Grant Program is aligned with key indicators in Vital Signs report.
  • The Vital Signs report is used to attract and retain volunteers.
  • Vital Signs report analytics shows a positive impact on our communities.

Strategy 4.0:  Connecting Community

  • Charities in Northumberland County are aware of CFCSN - relationships and partnerships are formed.
  • Collaborations are formed with community service organizations and community leaders to support the needs of Northumberland County.
  • An engaged community through convened Vital Conversations around issues that matter.
